Dragon inspired by a drawing from @MORTADELLA.TATTOO
A character sculpting project in 3D modelling is a creative and technical process focused on designing and building a highly detailed and expressive digital character. It involves shaping and refining a 3D model to capture the anatomy, personality, and unique traits of the character.
A character sculpting project is about breathing life into a concept through digital craftsmanship. It blends anatomy, storytelling, and technical skill to build a character that’s not just visually compelling, but ready to perform in digital worlds.
Construction Process:
How it was made
Using a Concept from mortadella.tattoo, a Poland based tattoo artist who does, almost exclusively, dragon designs.

Textured character
After many tries texturing this creature, I arrived at this result. Using various materials, tweaking the colors and playing with the generators I ended up with a satisfying result, maybe with a little too much subsurface scattering.
Turnaround textured and wireframe
Finally, I imported the textured model into Maya, added some lights and a background and proceeded to render the scene. I also changed the textures to a wireframe shader, with ambient occlusion for better definition, to show the topology.
TAKEAWAY
With this project I discovered how fun modeling creatures can be and learned how to use Substance Painter. I also learned that there’s always something that you can improve in your model.
